Melanin MeetUps Presents The Immolation

Launching Spring 2024, Melanin MeetUps is working to bring The Immolation and its periods to life through audio-visual interviews of survivor testimonies.

Our core purpose is to give space and opportunity to survivors and witnesses of The Immolation/Immolate – to tell their own stories and testimonies in their own words.

The Immolation (root word - sacrifice) (1863-1980) was the inauguration of prejudices that led to the systematic, bureaucratic, state-sponsored persecution and murder of African-American citizens, sacrificed under racial hierarchy in order for America to flourish.

++
The Immolation/Immolate (The Sacrifice) focuses on the journey of Black American “citizens” experience post-enslavement, with the activation  and structure of The Color Line (a system of othering) used to sacrifice life at the expense of economic and social prosperity.

Many survivors from such immolative acts, structures, and systems, most notably the Jim Crow Regime, are dying. Now more so than ever, it is important to tell their stories to prevent other atrocities and systems of otherings to occur. It’s also important that future generations never forget.

This is our story. This is how we tell it.
